General Information

Geography: Mongolia covers area of 1,566,000 square kilometers, bordering Russia to the north and China to the south. Mongolia’s landscape is dominated mostly by steppe from the central region to the east, desert from the south to the west and forest-steppe in the northern regions.

Average altitude is 1580 m above sea level. In the west there is the Mongol Altai mountain range which stands more than 3000 – 4000 meters high. Mongolia is a wonderful country with highlands, rivers and steppes.

Climate: The climate of Mongolia is such extremely changeable because of its geographical location. Mongolia is far from seas and oceans in the lee of surrounding mountains, so it is very dry and cold. In other words, Mongolia is the country which has natural and environmental diversity.

There are four seasons in Mongolia. On average, the sun shines for well over 250 days a year. Average summer temperature is +20’C, average winter temperature is -24’C and average rainfall is 200-220mm. Each part of areas has own different feature that you will never forget if you visit there once.

Economy Mining is the leading sector as Mongolia has a wealth of natural resources, followed by livestock herding. The main export products are mineral resources and cashmere and the majority of products are exported to mainly Asian countries.
Shopping There are various types of souvenir products such as felt products, cashmere products and souvenir products with traditional styles, t-shirts with drawings related to Mongolian cultures, traditional costume and leather products. Also, you can buy a CD of a “Morin Khuur” concert and daily products such as cheese, milk curd and stone salt.

Food Mongolian food includes beef, mutton, dairy products and vegetables. There are varieties of restaurants in Ulaanbaatar serving Mongolian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai and European cuisine.
Accommodation There are comfortable hotels with 3-5stars, guest houses and hostels of varying standards in Ulaanbaatar. Outside the capital, you will stay in tourist ger camp (Mongolian traditional dwelling).
